9/17/2023 0 Comments Homemade vanilla extract jars![]() When people refer to Madagascar or Bourbon vanilla, they are referring to this region which has nothing to do with bourbon the liquor.Ī little more than 50 years after vanilla beans were brought to the Bourbon Islands, someone similarly smuggled some vanilla beans into Tahiti which has been harvesting them ever since. More than 200 years ago, someone smuggled some vanilla beans from Mexico and ultimately harvested them in the Bourbon Islands, which is off the southern, east coast of Africa. They require a warm, humid climate to grow, generally within 10-20 degrees of the equator. Vanilla beans originally came from Mexico. I will provide updates to this post as the months pass by.
